High Five Hotel

It’s a decent, inexpensive place for an overnight stop, about a 15 minute drive from Yangon International airport. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean though not very spacious. It’s not especially cozy, and parking can be pretty tight, but the price is quite cheap.

Dinner at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced, and the rooms looked fairly modern and were clean. We were on the 5th floor, and there’s no elevator, though the liftboy carried our baggage up after we arrived. There are some English channels on TV, and the staff were attentive. The manager, or I suppose that was the manager, spoke good English. The other staff didn’t always seem to understand us fully, which is a common problem throughout Myanmar. We’d read on TripAdvisor that asking for English breakfast at check-in meant we could get that instead of Asian-style breakfast. Since it was our last day in Myanmar, we hoped for something European. The manager said it would include cheese omelette, bacon, hash brown and beans. In the morning, though, we got dry fried eggs with no cheese omelette, NO bacon, rather cold hash brown and beans in tomato sauce that were ok. When we complained about the promised bacon, all we got was “sorry.” That 3-ingredient-English breakfast had little in common with an English breakfast. We also weren’t impressed by the smell when we opened the fridge, so we didn’t dare use the minibar.

It’s about 15 minutes from the International Airport, and you can order quite tasty food that arrives within 15 or 20 minutes. The staff are excellent, kind, hospitable and helpful. One thing that needs work is the WiFi connection.

The hotel is very close to Yangon International airport, which is handy when you’re busy travelling. They can prepare a breakfast box for you to grab and go, which is really nice. It may be a little expensive for some people.
