My Dream Hotel

I booked two nights alone because the hotel was only a 10 minute drive from my meeting. I checked in at 17:10, but by around 21:40 a staff member used a master key to open my room without knocking. I'd just come out of the shower wearing only a towel. The door bar restrictor kept the door from opening all the way, but I was frozen in place. He said he was checking every room and left. I packed up and asked to speak with the manager. The receptionist, who was also the man who had opened my door, returned my identity card without apologizing. He said the manager was asleep and wouldn't be disturbed to speak with me, and that hotel policy meant no refund. The manager came down only after I said I'd take the conversation to the police station. She was staying on the 1st floor. She said checking rooms personally at night was the hotel's routine, and they wouldn't refund me because I'd stayed more than thirty minutes. I called my lawyer and told her what offences they were committing. Only then was I offered the choice of a refund or a move to another room. The man apologized, but the manager didn't. She said something along the lines that the refund would come out of his salary and he'd already apologized, so I should be happy. I still have the recording on my phone. The details were even more upsetting.

A handy central place to get through Yangon electricity blackouts. The hotel has fine dining, casual dining, and beer stations. Rooms are neat and clean, though some bathrooms have transparent glass doors and walls, which felt a bit unusual. Breakfast is very nice for the price, and the hotel is reasonably priced with commendable service.

I spent two days here for a New Year staycation, but my room had no hot water. I told the staff as soon as I noticed and asked them to fix it, but they took no action.
