Auberge Samiraa - Hostel

I always feel welcome here, and I’m comfortable and safe ☺

The value for money is great. This place suits you if you enjoy communal tables and spending time with other travellers. You could find a shy Korean girl showering or a topless Hungarian guy making coffee in the Kitchen. But sleeping past 6AM is unlikely, with the neighborhood muezzin blasting at full volume then. That’s also when shy Korean girls start blow-drying their hair.

The hostel itself is fine, and the staff are generally kind and helpful. Still, they seem to let people come inside and sell things to guests, which is annoying when you’re trying to relax and keep getting harassed. If you need a visa for Senegal, like Australians do, watch out for a man there who offers to “help.” He can get the visa, but says it costs 55€ when the actual price is €30 (1260 ouguiya). I’d ignore him and apply at the embassy yourself. The staff there are helpful, it’s not busy, and the process is easy. You need the money, 2 photos, proof of a flight out Senegal, and accommodation in Senegal, just the names of places are enough. It can usually be done the same day.

I stayed for 4 days and paid 40$ per night for the room. It’s a nice place, and the people were kind.
