Novotel Malta Sliema

The room was spacious, clean, and modern, with a fabulous shower. Both the bed and sofa were very comfortable. Breakfast had lots of variety and plenty to eat. The hot drink mugs weren’t refilled quickly enough on any of the three mornings we ate there, though it was extremely busy at breakfast. We also had an amazing massage in the spa. The staff were great, especially Madhav, and the service from check-in through check-out was amazing. A stay I’d highly recommend.

The rooftop pool was a highlight, with beautiful views, and I found the spa on the second level very relaxing. The bar and restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the team were friendly and professional. Novotel is a modern, clean, well-maintained new property in Sliema, with comfortable rooms and nicely designed public spaces. It’s close to the waterfront, restaurants, and ferries to Valletta. I had a great experience and would stay again.

The gym needs some attention, since a few pieces of equipment weren’t working and the facilities felt limited. We also found breakfast disappointing, with a poor selection, and the lunch wasn’t tasty. We were surprised to get frozen-style calamari at a Mediterranean island hotel, and the portion was tiny. Restaurant service was a little slow, though the staff stayed polite and friendly. There was a lot to like as well. The hotel felt new, modern, and carefully designed, with thoughtful details and an eco-friendly approach to saving resources while still providing what guests need. Our room was spotless and in perfect condition, check-in was quick, and housekeeping could refresh the whole room, including towels and sheets, each day if requested. The rooftop pool was lovely for relaxing in the sun, even if the water was a bit cold in early May. Soundproofing was excellent. Despite occasional street noise, we heard nothing from outside or the neighboring rooms. Staff were kind and professional, and the luggage storage was handy for an early arrival or late flight. We really enjoyed the stay and would recommend the hotel. A few small improvements could make it perfect.

The parking situation was absurd. Before arriving, I was told there were several lots, outside and in a garage. At reception I learned the nearby lot didn’t belong to the hotel. It cost 2.5 euros for the first hour, 5 euros for the second, then 1.5 euros per extra hour. One day came to 38 euros. A nightmare. The hotel is new and well located in a quiet area near Valletta. Check-in didn’t go very well, but the room itself was pleasant and spacious. It has an open layout with shelves and a place for clothes, but no closed wardrobe. Cleanliness was another matter: the top shelf was so dusty my hand went black when I touched it, and the floor wasn’t vacuumed or cleaned during the stay. Stains stayed put and crumbs were still there. Breakfast was chaotic, with stressed staff and a cramped layout that put all the food in one tight spot. Organization was poor and there wasn’t much variety. There were several coffee machines, but sugar and cups were kept only at the back, even though supplies hadn’t run out. I had a complimentary drink through my Accor status. When I asked what I could choose, I was told wine. I asked about a non-alcoholic option and was offered non-alcoholic beer. The employee seemed inexperienced and kept looking over her shoulder. Staff need training before serving customers.
