Spinola Hotel

My brother’s family, 2 adults and a 6-year-old, stayed at the Spinola Hotel from 30 January to 2 February 2026 and had a very pleasant visit. The central location made it easy to get around, and the reception staff were excellent. Jay Naranja especially made sure everything was comfortable and hassle-free. Great value for money, and highly recommended.

The rooms were neat and clean, the staff were friendly, and the food included spreads, cereals, baked goods, salami, and more. The hotel itself is great, though I might start taking the stairs more than the elevator, lol. I got stuck on the 10th floor for 15 minutes before two wonderful receptionists rescued me, so it all ended well and my vacation continued, lol. Apparently there are elevator issues: I got stuck, and someone in a review about 6 months ago had the same thing happen.

Stay away. I booked a room and was surprised to find it had no windows. The bathroom window looks onto pipes, and the smell is terrible, so you can’t open it. The service was terrible too. They assured me I wouldn’t be charged, then took the full payment from my card without telling me. The location is the only good thing. If you’ll be out all day and can tolerate spending the night in a dark box of a room, it might do the job. Otherwise, stay away.

I only needed a night in Malta between flights, and for the price, especially in winter, this was a decent place to stay. The hotel looked new or renovated, with a modern, well-presented style. Its facilities were simple but what you’d expect from a 3 star hotel. The hotel provided shower gel, which you don’t always get at that rating, and communication was good. The breakfast was basic but adequate: 2 types of pastry or bread, boiled eggs, bacon, sausage, salad, ham and cheese for sandwiches, cornflakes, yogurts, and so on. We went near the end, so I’m not sure whether the fried eggs had run out. My friend didn’t like the small sink, which made washing your face difficult, or the lack of bathroom space for leaving things. It didn’t bother me for one night. We didn’t check out the pool, so I can’t comment on it. The seaside area is nice for walking, with restaurants, bars, organised trips, and mini markets nearby. There are lots of buses to Valetta and the airport. The night bus from Valetta to st Juliens was packed and a nightmare, so I’d suggest taking a taxi. Getting to the silent city or rotunda was a bit more complicated. With only 24h in Malta, we took a taxi to the silent city and a bus to Valetta. We left with a positive impression and gave it 5 stars because it was decent for the price.
