Hotel Valentina

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the housekeeping team were kind and attentive as well. Hotel Valentina is right in the heart of the city, which makes getting around really convenient. It’s excellent value for the price, with a good balance between affordability and what you get. A wonderful stay, highly recommended!

Really nice, quiet, and clean hotel. The staff were kind, polite, and always smiling. A special hello to Mr. Romero, he’s a really nice guy! I’d be happy to come back and recommend the place.

For us, the main problem was the room temperature. It was too hot, and we didn’t sleep well. We raised it with reception twice during the stay and again at checkout, but they couldn’t fix it. The thermostat in the room doesn’t override the hotel’s central temperature settings. We tried switching it off and leaving the balcony door open for a night. The temperature was perfect, but the mosquitoes had a perfect banquet. The bed wasn’t great either. It was two single beds and mattresses pushed together with a topper. The topper slid down overnight, and sleeping in the middle meant sinking into a dip. It squeaked quite a bit if you did anything other than sleep in it. The rest was good for a 3* hotel. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and the premises were clean and modern. Breakfast was what you’d expect, with cooked options, bread, cheese, meat, salad, fruit, tea, coffee, juices, and sweet things or pastries. It was all good, with plenty of choice for our seven nights. The pool was closed for winter and wasn’t heated, so I can’t comment on it. We were upgraded on arrival to a room with a small balcony. It also had a safe, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer, an ironing board, and plenty of toiletries. We chose the green housekeeping option, so they didn’t come every day. That suited us fine since we’re tidy and don’t need fresh towels daily, and I liked having the choice. The location is also great. There are lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby, and St Julian is a central base for exploring. Public transport is good, and there’s an airport bus nearby.

Checkout turned into an unnecessary delay over whether I had booked a return taxi to the airport. They only figured it out when I showed them the confirmation email from the hotel’s own email account. My invoice also had three hotel bar drinks that we never had. They had no signed bar receipts, but left the charges on the bill while sorting out their internal issues. I’m sure I’ll have to chase the refund for a few weeks. Maybe I was staying at a different Hotel Valentina from the one described in the other reviews. The rooms are tiny and underwhelming, more like a cheap train station hotel in design and quality. Housekeeping was poor: they mostly just made the bed, left used cups with half a coffee in them, and only replaced the small water bottle occasionally. Nothing at the breakfast buffet appealed to me, and the juices were just cheap syrup. The rooftop pool has no shade, so bring your own umbrella. All in all, avoid this place if you want a trouble-free vacation.
