Diplomat Hotel

The hotel is in a handy spot, with a bus stop and ferry station nearby, and Valletta about 30 minutes away. I liked having a gym, pool and sauna for when the weather wasn’t good. Breakfast was delicious, with a huge range of choices. Our room was clean and had a balcony overlooking the sea.

The breakfast buffet had lots to choose from each day and was really tasty. Our room was lovely and clean, and I especially liked the amazing sea view. The staff at the Diplomat Hotel were friendly, attentive and always ready to help. We had a great stay in Malta, and I’d happily come back.

We arrived hours before check-in, and the staff kindly looked after our bags. They were welcoming throughout, and there was a welcome drink plus complimentary snacks and drinks in the room, which was a nice surprise. Breakfast had loads of choice and good coffee. The pool, spa and sauna were all clean and tidy. The hotel is right on the promenade, with a bus stop less than 200m away serving many places. The airport bus TD3 costs €3, and there are lots of restaurants nearby. We’d definitely stay again.

The location made getting around straightforward. Two major bus stops are about a 2-minute walk in either direction, with frequent services west to St. Julian’s or southeast to Valletta, the ferries and the main Valletta bus terminal. From there you can connect to buses for Mdina/Rabat and elsewhere on the island. TD3 goes directly to and from the airport. Traffic can be heavy almost anywhere on the main island. There aren’t any grocery stores close by. Lidl on Triq Amery Street is okay and about 550-meters away, while excellent Welbee’s Supermarket on High Street is another 200-meters along. The complimentary breakfast was extensive, with hot and cold options, fresh cut fruit, meats and cheeses, breads and muffins, cereals, yogurt, juices, tea and coffee. The top-floor pool was fine and never busy when I went up to read. It has great views of the ocean and promenade. My room worked well for a solo traveler, though it was comfortable rather than fancy. It had a small side balcony, a working refrigerator, coffee and tea, and robust WiFi included. The recently updated bathroom was clean but snug, and the shower had plenty of hot water. There were very few electrical outlets and none near the bed. One was the big British plug, but I was prepared for that. This is a very nice 3-Star hotel in a great spot on Sliema’s north promenade. The staff were welcoming and let me check in early after seeing how exhausted I was from 16-hours of overseas flights.
