Xemxija Bay Hotel

We loved jogging along the bay and found the location handy for walks and nearby amenities. The bus stop is about two minutes away, so even with our hire car we had an easy option for getting to Valletta. The hotel is officially rated 3 stars, but we felt our stay compared well with 4-star places we’ve been to. Our spacious two-bedroom apartment was clean, comfortable, and well equipped, though a little dated. The kids were thrilled by the unexpected jacuzzi bath. When the heating stopped working, the staff quickly brought extra bedding. The cleaners were accommodating and came daily, including Christmas Day, though we declined that day so they could have a break. The pool was inviting and clean despite it being out of season, and staff checked the PH levels. The pool bar was shut over Christmas, so we can’t say what it’s like. We stayed over the holiday and found the staff incredibly friendly and ready to sort out small issues. We heard the hotel is being restored, including work on a new gym, and are looking forward to coming back in summer. Thanks to everyone at Xemxija Bay Hotel for making Christmas so lovely Xx.

We found it easy to get around by bus or Uber. The stop, a convenience store, a few cafes and restaurants, and truck stop stalls were all within a minute’s walk. Our rides were under about £9 except for Valletta, which cost around £14. We also walked seven minutes to Apulia, a beautiful restaurant that’s well worth a visit. The hotel sits between lovely bay views on one side and greenery on the other. We were there at the end of February for my surprise 40th birthday, and the room had been decorated for the occasion. Our suite/apartment had plenty of space, cooking facilities, a separate dining area, and a private balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was the comfiest we’ve ever slept in. Even though it was February, warmer weather meant the hotel opened the pool, so we got to enjoy the amenities. We hadn’t booked breakfast, but paid for the buffet one morning and found lots of choice. The staff went above and beyond. Such a fantastic stay at Xemxija Bay Hotel, we’ll definitely be back. The location was a strong point, with the bus station just a two-minute walk away and routes that can take you everywhere. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, and let us check in early. The bed was comfortable too. The room, which had four single beds for us as a couple, was near the lift and noisy all the time. Reception said two beds would be joined into a double. The housekeeper arrived quickly, but came in without knocking or apologizing while we were changing after a long flight. The room itself felt very tired, with mold around the shower and toilet, and we could still see dog paw prints 🐾 left by previous guests. The AC was loud and centrally controlled, so we couldn’t adjust it ourselves. The TV remote also worked unreliably. The pool was closed for the off season, so I can’t comment on it.

The bay view and quiet atmosphere made for a really relaxing stay at Xemxija Bay Hotel. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were helpful throughout. Riadh stood out for being kind, attentive, and always willing to help. I’d gladly stay here again.
