Horisun

We enjoyed the pool, and the landscaped grounds were beautiful. Since we're locals wanting a break from home and routine, with a birthday to celebrate, Horisun gave us what we wanted. It's a 15 minute walk to the beach, though we drove there quickly the next morning to watch the sunrise. There aren't water activities like at a beach hotel, and the pool is the only activity at Horisun. We stayed just one night during the low season, when we were the only guests besides one other couple in the 15 room hotel. Roshan and Sang welcomed us warmly and then gave us privacy. Our large room had a lake view and an outdoor balcony. Dinner was an extra we requested, a three course set menu with Thai influences. I'm a local in Mauritius, and recently met a Thai woman married to a local who, with her husband, owns and manages this small boutique hotel in the east of the island. We live in the east too, and I thought Horisun would be a nice place to try authentic Thai food for a birthday. It's not by the beach, but the inland lake is a bonus. Breakfast was included, with fruit, crepes, omelet, local gateau piment, and pain aux chocolat.

The owners were friendly and helpful, and it's a quiet, relaxing spot for time with family, friends, or as a couple. The garden view rooms were spacious, with a huge bathroom, and the whole place was super clean. The pool was clean and a good size. We booked dinner for our first night: green curry, tom yum soup, and dessert, all beautifully served and cooked with herbs from the garden. Breakfast was plentiful too, with crepes, omelette, fruit, and tea or coffee. Good value for money.

The owners' family have put their hearts into this place, and it feels like a warm, welcoming home rather than a hotel. It's private and peaceful, and a handy base for visiting the whole northeast coast. The food is made with love, with a lovely blend of Mauritian and Thai cooking. We had a wonderful time and will be back.

We spent a week here and loved the beautiful garden and pool area. It's easy to walk to the beach, or just spend the day at the residence by the lake. The hosts were lovely and helpful whenever we needed something, and even arranged a rental car within one day. The place is quiet and peaceful, with the nicest hosts. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, and vegetarian options for one of us were no problem. We'd highly recommend staying here if you don't like crowded all-inclusive mass tourism.
