The owner didn’t make any effort to address the problems when I raised them, and we couldn’t bring ourselves to shower in that bathroom. We chose this apartment for its price, but I’d pay a little extra to stay elsewhere. There was just one bath towel and one small hand towel for two people, and both were so filthy they were horrible to touch. The bathroom was just as dirty. The bed had no sheets, so I had to search the closet for some. Those sheets were dirty too, covered in lint and marked with cigarette burns. None of the furniture was in decent condition. Easily the worst accommodation experience I’ve had.

There’s plenty of space in the apartments and the location is good, but the place was dirty. We asked them to clean again and it barely made a difference. I don’t think it’s ever been properly cleaned. Getting warm water in the shower seems to depend on luck, and a lot of the accessories don’t work. Not worth the price.

The area has real potential for this kind of business, but the owner could do much better if she wants it to succeed. Guests bring in the money, so they should be given good value. When we arrived, nobody was there to welcome us and we had to call the owner. While waiting for her, we looked around and found a dirty place with cleaning supplies left by the entrance. We walked away. There’s a real treasure here if it’s looked after.

The apartment is in a handy spot in Flic en Flac, on Mauritius’s west coast, near the beach, main road, transport, supermarkets, and restaurants. The area has some of the island’s nicest sandy beaches and lots of major hotel chains and resorts. There’s a pool and gated security. Wifi works best in the central courtyard, unless your suite has an extender.
