Sunny Lagoon Holiday Villa

The landlord was exceptionally attentive and very nice, and the cleaning lady was lovely too. We found this apartment homier and better equipped than others we saw in Pereybere, and it was very good value. I'd happily recommend staying here around Pereybere or Grand Baie. There are four apartments in the villa, each with two double beds. Ours was spacious, modern, and really clean, with nice percale bedding. The air conditioning worked well and the shower had a strong flow. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the washing machine was a godsend. There was also parking if you have a rental car. It was surprisingly quiet, with so many exotic songbirds that it almost felt like being in a rainforest. The location is between Grand Baie and Pereybere beach, both walkable, and the bus stop nearby makes cheap local trips around the island easy.

The owner was friendly and checked in almost every day to see if things were okay. We stayed six nights and enjoyed it. The place was very clean, with a nice garden, large bedrooms, air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, and TV.

We were left looking for somewhere to stay over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day after the owner cancelled our booking just nine days before arrival. We had reserved two villas back in August for December, for two families including two one-year-old babies. This was awful, and I wouldn't recommend dealing with someone who could leave you in that position at the last minute. We'd spoken with him by phone and email several times. The villas had just opened and had no reviews when we booked, so we got a good price. Once the season started, the reviews were good and we were glad we'd booked. Then, two days before Christmas, he said a water problem meant all the apartments had to close for several weeks. We believe that wasn't true: a friend contacted him about the dates he'd cancelled, and he said they were available and even called her to try to get her to book. By then, the price had gone up by 200%.

We went in 2017, when the place was still pretty new. It had two bedrooms, a private kitchen and a living room, and was lovely for a stay of more than a day. Everything was clean, the beds were soft, there was hot water and good Wi-Fi, and it was peaceful for sleeping. I definitely recommend it!
