Bakwa Lodge

The semi-attached bungalows are beautifully decorated and well put together, with a comfortable bed, a great outdoor shower, and everything needed even for a longer stay. Bakwa lodge is a little gem on beautiful Rodrigues island. It’s such a quiet, wonderful spot, surrounded by nature with the usually empty beach right out front, yet a shop and a few places to eat are within walking distance. The lovely staff were very helpful and arranged a scooter rental for me, which was a perfect way to explore all corners of the island. It’s also at the start of the amazing Mourouk-Pt.Coton hike. I definitely recommend this little “Bijou” when visiting Rodrigues island.

The food was delicious, and they catered well for us as a pair of vegetarians. We found spacious rooms in beautifully maintained gardens just back from the beach, with very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We stayed in lodge no.7 for one night and loved its delightful design. The welcome was nice, and the staff were open and welcoming, as you’d expect at this kind of accommodation. The lodges are arranged in pairs, so there may be a little less privacy. We also really disliked the “road,” about 300-400m of offroad. The meals were nowhere near 5 stars, in my opinion. I’d suggest trying the small local places for real traditional meals. I gladly recommend the lodge, but not its cuisine!

The food was outstanding, and the staff were kind and always helpful. The hotel is a cozy, relaxing place on the beautiful beaches of Port-Sud Est, with very spacious, comfortable rooms in a modern style. The beds can be quite uncomfortable, though. There are quite a few mosquitoes, so bring lots of mosquito spray. Insects can get in through the small gap under the room doors, including cockroaches and centipedes. I also found a scorpion in the shower. If you have kids, it may be worth asking to change up the food, since the dishes can be quite complicated for them. Even with its flaws, this is one of the best places to stay on the island. P.S. Don’t take their airport transfer option, taxis are a lot cheaper.
