We chose Andrea Lodges for my friend's birthday, hoping to have good food and a nice time. The setting is lovely, and the restaurant has breathtaking views, but we left disappointed with the food and service. We arrived at 13h and sat at a table that hadn't even been cleaned. The oily crispy calamari starter came before the table was set, while the bread and butter only arrived a few moments later. The chilli paste came when we'd already finished the starter. The calamari also upset our stomachs. We waited another 45mins for the main course. The grilled lamb and chicken were cold, the chicken was dry and tasteless, and it wasn't worth the Rs800 we paid. My friend couldn't eat his lamb. When we asked to take the food away, they wrapped it in Aluminium foil instead of putting it in a takeaway box. Our drinks were mostly ice, around 75%, and cost Rs400+. The drive from the main road takes 15mins along a very rocky road. Andrea Lodges has a great location, but the food and service need a lot of improvement.

The buffet was especially nice, and the rooms have scenic views of cliffs and a waterfall if you get the right one. Internet access is limited, though. During our visit the pool was under repair, and we hadn't been told before arriving.

The rough track through sugar cane fields makes for a bumpy arrival, but the view when you get there is incredible. The grounds are immaculate, with palms, pine trees and lots of birds. From the cliff you can look out over the ocean and hear the waves all night. You can even watch the sunrise from bed.

Andrea is a peaceful place to unwind and reconnect with nature, not a hotel built around activities or a dance floor. We spent a weekend here with family, including young adults full of energy, and enjoyed exploring the lush scenery. The staff were welcoming and our room was clean. We went hiking along the cliffs on both sides of the hotel. How far you can go depends on your fitness, but if you're adventurous, you can find some lovely spots. Be careful not to get too close to the edges for photos or selfies. Comfortable hiking shoes and a hat are a good idea, as the sun can be scorching. Bring mosquito repellent if you plan to sit under the trees. A few things could be improved, though none were dramatic enough to spoil the stay. There's no complimentary drink at the table, no minibar in the room, and no phone to call reception, although you can ask staff to keep drinks cool and reception is nearby. Some room entrances can get muddy when it rains heavily, and drainage could be improved in those areas. There were no slabs from the back door to the green grass overlooking the sea, so I walked on a fallen palm leaf to avoid tracking dirt into the room. I also couldn't find an outdoor fresh water tap to rinse the mud off our shoes.

The bumpy road was the main downside when I visited for my college's farewell party, though it may have changed since then. The food wasn't that great, but the view is the reason to go, and it still makes this a nice place to visit.
