Le Gite du Bonheur

The pool was green around the walls, the place was dirty, and there was mold in both the room and bathroom. The fridge was full of junk, with no fresh fruit, juice, croissants, or anything like that. Agent Kody wasn’t helpful at all, and we even had to deal with dirty laundry that needed cleaning. This remote village house is far from everything. Albion and flicenflac beaches are kilometers away, and there’s absolutely nothing nearby. We called LUX GRAND BAIE and paid to stay there instead. It was a drive, but LUX is 5 star. Tamarin is old school. Do yourself a favor and shop around for somewhere better. I wanted to warn anyone thinking this could be their perfect Mauritius vacation stay. No wake up.

Robin was really nice to us, and the room was clean and spacious with an incredible view. The value is great, and the place was even better than I expected after reading the comments.

We had a lovely family stay at Gite du Bonheur, with a nice pool and a convenient location. Even though we booked quickly and at short notice, Cody gave us a warm welcome. A few things could be improved: the towels were torn and should be replaced, the breakfast milk we got had gone bad, and there was only one small bar of soap for a room of four. Shower gel would be better. We also asked about a late checkout. It was possible, but the extra Rs2500 per room was almost the cost of one night for one person. Since we had booked 6 rooms, I think they could have offered us a more considerate rate.

We were refunded for the rest of our stay after telling Robb what happened. He was understanding, though he asked us not to post a review. I’d hate for anyone else to go through this and have their holiday spoiled. The house needs to be cleaned up and they need to get their act together. The bedroom and bathroom were filthy, with stains on the headboard and weeks of buildup around the taps and grout. The small pool area had a few rusty, bird-dropping-covered loungers. It was in the middle of nowhere, and dogs barked all night. On our second night, a cockroach crawled over my partner while he was asleep. We got it out, but were too scared to sleep afterwards. Breakfast was dreadful: a few slices of bread in a cupboard with ants crawling over them, a little ham and cheese in the fridge, and sour milk. There were cooking facilities, so I’d bought eggs to make in the morning, but we were told the gas was disconnected because there weren’t enough guests. This was the worst experience we’ve ever had. If we’d stayed in that isolated house, I don’t think we’d have enjoyed Mauritius at all.
