La Dorade

The place was dirty, and the staff's behavior was really bad. Nobody should stay here. The location is bad too, and food isn't available.

The host refused to let us check in even after we showed the online booking voucher and proof that we had paid. It seemed to me that he wanted to earn twice from each room: accept money through online bookings, then give the same room to walk-in guests. Online customers could be turned away and lose their booking money. Please avoid booking this hotel.

We booked through Solfaktor, which listed La Dorade as a three-star hotel, and were shocked when we arrived. The place was so dirty that ordinary cleaning would be pointless. It needs professional sanitizing to remove what looks like decades of built-up grime. The low price doesn't make up for it. I wouldn't stay there even for free. Please stay away.

La Dorade felt like a satire of what a hotel in paradise should be. As soon as we entered, our instinct was that we'd taken a wrong turn, even though the owner confirmed we were in the right place. I can't understand who rated it three stars. It was worse than we could have imagined. The rooms hadn't been cleaned. The sheets were dirty, the toilet and shower area were filthy, and the handheld shower head was missing. You need three keys for each room, for the door, wardrobe, and safe. I asked two or three times, but never got the wardrobe key. I kept conversation with the owner to a minimum because he seemed careless and got defensive when we asked about the room conditions. The kitchen area was revolting. One refrigerator had a rotten, fungal smell, and the kitchen fan was coated in thick grease. If guests aren't meant to use the area, it should be closed off with a wall or curtain and marked staff only. After dark, insects were everywhere. Big and small cockroaches crawled over the indoor surfaces, and ants and mosquitoes came into the rooms at night. When the toilet flushed, we could hear the water and its contents drain just outside the window. The smell was horrible in the ground-floor rooms. In my opinion, the place should close for a month so the whole inside and outside can be cleaned. It also needs a welcome sign at the entrance and an organized reception desk at the bottom of the stairs leading to the rooms. The rooms need improving, and the owner needs to get the bug problem under control. Until then, he should take responsibility for the condition of the rooms before guests arrive and work on a better solution over time. That would spare guests a lot of discomfort and dissatisfaction, even after one night.
