The sea was gorgeous, clear and full of color, and the food was amazing. I was there for over two weeks in July 2023, and it turned into one of my most exciting, adventurous, yet relaxing holidays. Five stars hardly feels like enough. Dhiddhoo is a fishing village on a sizeable local island in the far north of the Maldives. It still feels untouched by mass tourism, with a raw, authentic feel that suited the kind of trip I wanted. There are food shops, a hospital, a bank, and the other basics you need. The four-room guesthouse was comfortable. My room had air conditioning, a good bed, towels, hot water, and a lovely outdoor shower that felt great after a hot day snorkeling. The owner was incredibly kind, and the staff did their best to take care of whatever I needed. There are lots of excursions to choose from, including sandbanks, local and deserted islands, and even camping on an island. The staff can also point you to local cafeterias for typical Maldivian afternoon snacks.

The food was simple, very good, and varied, with meals planned around personal preferences. The chef deserves kudos. Rooms are basic but very clean, air-conditioned, and tidied daily. I’d happily return. Staff were attentive and quick to take care of requests, and the owner was devoted to guests. He arranged everything smoothly, including snorkeling outings to nearly untouched, breathtaking spots. Seeing manta rays, other rays, dolphins, sharks, and sea turtles made exploring underwater a real pleasure. The small boat was handled expertly and got us there quickly. The captain stayed alert to every detail, especially while we were snorkeling. Trips often included a day at pristine beaches, with a different highlight each day. The crew brought freshly caught fish for lunches I’ll miss. My favorite part was sleeping in a tent on a deserted island. You can spend some lovely days here. It’s quiet, simple, and comfortably furnished.
