My mother's birthday trip turned into a nightmare for my family and me. We found many problems from our first day at Savaa home guesthouse. There were no slippers, soap, shampoo, or other facilities. The Wi-Fi and TV didn’t work, there was no receptionist available around the clock, and the beach towels were the worst quality I’ve ever seen. I even woke the owner at 7:30 to get breakfast, but it wasn’t ready until 10:30. After we first left for the beach, more than half our money, 1200 euro, was stolen from the safe in our room. The property had no security equipment such as CCTV cameras, or even a guard. They also kept our passports and demanded 900$ to return them, even though our booking.com confirmation said 168$. I went to the police, and the island's only officer took the passports and gave them back to us. Only then could we finally return to our country. The new managers aren’t from Huraa island and rent the guesthouse from the former local owner. In my view, the older good reviews are about the previous management. I’d never stay with these managers. I’m following up on the criminal case with our foreign ministry and the Republic of Maldives Police.
