Arshad is the main reason I’m giving this place five stars. He looks after guests, keeps the property very clean, and is usually around if you need anything. He even stood ready to welcome us back to Huraa if we hadn’t managed to get a flight. We only stayed one night last week, though we would have stayed longer if we hadn’t got on a flight to London. The property feels a bit dated and tired, but the rooms are spacious. Ours had three beds, and the sheets and towels were very clean. The basic bathroom was clean as well. There’s tea and coffee in the shared area, plus plenty of space to hang wet clothes and towels. Room prices are very reasonable. You can get between Huraa, Male, and the airport by public ferry or speedboat, and the island has a nice tourist beach.

The guesthouse itself was okay, but an incident outside it left me feeling unsafe as a solo traveler. A local man in his 50s who often introduces himself as “Samiy” followed me and pressured me for unwanted attention. When I turned him down, he even threatened to involve the police. At one point, he waited outside the guesthouse and spoke to staff to find out if I was staying there. I don’t hold the guesthouse fully responsible, since it’s a small island where everyone knows each other. Still, visitors, especially women traveling alone, should know that this man hangs around and approaches tourists. I hope the guesthouse will take a more active role in helping protect guests so they can feel safe.
