Rahaa Resort

The staff made our week in an ocean view villa: they were incredibly attentive, worked long hours, kept the room immaculate, and restocked the mini bar every day. Meals had plenty of vegetables and beef, which worked well even for someone who doesn't eat chicken or fish. My husband ate everything and loved it. I also loved the turtle snorkelling, and there's a free snorkelling trip every day that I'd recommend. The paid excursions we tried were fantastic too. We were less happy with how little there was to do outside those trips. There's no evening entertainment or daytime activities like yoga. The bigger frustration was arriving at Male international airport after two international flights and then being told to wait six hours for the domestic flight. We got access to a lounge with lots of food and drinks, but that still wasn't satisfactory. We learned the hotel only runs two transfers a day, which should be advertised so guests can prepare. For the price, the resort lets you enjoy the beauty of the Maldives at a reasonable cost compared with some five-star islands closer to male airport. You get what you pay for, and overall we had a fantastic stay.

The staff were the one bright spot for my wife and me, who came with a couple of friends. They were friendly and tried hard to help, though communication was sometimes difficult because many didn't speak much English. Their kindness couldn't make up for what was one of our worst travel experiences. We saw very little to do despite the resort promoting activities and amenities. There's no swimming pool, the drink selection was extremely poor, and there was almost no entertainment. Meals were disappointing too: the selection was limited, and on several occasions we saw bugs and even roaches around the food. Hygiene in our room and bathroom was a concern, with ants inside, a large spider in the room, and rats near where we were staying. The setting also fell far short of what the website and social media promise. Our advertised “lagoon view” looked more like a stagnant pond, with still, smelly water. Seaweed covered the beach, making it look uninviting and smell unpleasant. Around the property, broken chairs, damaged facilities, and roof sections that seemed to be falling apart gave us the impression that it hadn't been properly maintained for quite some time. In our opinion, the online advertising gives a false picture. The resort may have been nice when it first opened, but it now feels neglected and nowhere near the luxury experience promoted, despite the high cost. We can't recommend staying here.

Bradip and Mohamed Ashraf were the highlight of our visit to Rahaa Resort. They were consistently smiling, helpful, and professional. The resort itself is beautiful, clean, and has a wonderful atmosphere, but several service problems affected my stay. Our room phone didn't work from the first day. We reported it, but it wasn't fixed until checkout. Even asking for ice was a struggle: we were told it wasn't available or given just one or two cubes. For a resort of this caliber, that felt unacceptable and insulting. The Honey Moon decoration we requested was also missed on arrival and only provided two days late, ruining the special moment. Meals were a complete disaster for us as Arab guests. The food was bland across all meals, without flavor or seasoning, and didn't seem suited to international palates. With options on the island extremely limited and frankly unpalatable, I'd strongly advise Arab travelers to bring their own food, snacks, and canned goods. Management urgently needs chefs who can offer a varied menu for all visitors, not just local tastes. Rahaa is a lovely, clean place, but until the kitchen and basic hospitality standards improve, I can't fully recommend it.

The poor planning cost us a full vacation day. We waited eight hours for the hotel transfer in Malé and didn't arrive until 9 PM. The hotel admitted it was responsible, but offered only $100 for both of us. That feels disrespectful and nowhere near acceptable. The service and organization were poor.
