Elite Beach Inn

We got there and were told the hotel was full, so we had to spend one night at another lousy place. The pictures online don't match what we saw. Some room doors open into other rooms, and one window had no curtain. The lobby smelled strange and was full of smoke, and the staff were very unprofessional. After the hotel sent us elsewhere, they wouldn't even let us check out two hours late, although there were no other bookings. We ended up waiting in the lobby for our cab, and instead of being polite, the staff member tried to charge us for bed sheets. They offered no compensation at all. I'd stay away if you can. There are plenty of other hotels with better rooms and prices.

The breakfast was tasty, and the staff were helpful. For a similar price, this is a decent hotel compared with others in the country. The rooms are pretty standard, though there's no desk. It's a short walk to the movie theater and the beach. The WiFi is slower than in other countries, but enough for most videos at lower resolution, and faster than at the other similar-priced hotels I've tried here.

Everything about this guest house felt odd, and I wouldn't recommend it. The reception staff were rude, especially the Filipino man. I thought he treated me that way because I was a foreigner, though he got a little better after I showed my local ID. He wanted to add a 3.5% fee for paying by credit card, which I refused. He eventually agreed, but attempts with both my Visa and Amex failed. I had to pay by bank transfer in the end. The money went to an individual's account rather than the property's, and I'm guessing it was the owner's. Stay away.

I was there for two nights. The room was average, and the beach is only a three-minute walk away. The price is low, which is a plus. What really let it down was the staff's couldn't-care-less attitude. I asked for a cup of tea at 7 am because I had to catch a flight, and they rudely refused. The hotel needs different staff if it's going to improve.
