Arrival Beach and Spa at Gulhi

The hotel is clean, comfortable and well looked after, and the staff were excellent. Special thanks to the Turkish-speaking receptionist who went out of their way to help us. It's a dependable option for a family seeking a local Maldives stay. There isn't a private beach, but the hotel provides free sunbeds and umbrellas at Bikini Beach, where the water is lovely for swimming. Rooms and shared spaces are on the small side, but that's a fair trade for the comfort and cleanliness. The buffet food was okay, though the signature dishes ran out quickly and weren't replaced. Go early if you want the widest choice.

The room itself was clean and spacious, with a smart TV and the basic amenities we needed. Still, our Superior Room had two separate mattresses that kept sliding apart during the night, so sleeping was uncomfortable. We were there for just one night on a short trip we'd been looking forward to. We hadn't been told when booking that the room had no view. If we'd known, we would have selected a different one. We also weren't informed in advance about the speedboat pickup after we reached the island, though the hotel eventually arranged it. The welcome felt lukewarm, possibly because we were locals. Breakfast was average, and our restaurant meal didn't meet expectations. At checkout, our luggage was nearly left behind, and my husband had to point it out. The staff kindly offered late checkout for one of our two rooms, but communication overall could be better. One especially disturbing moment was speaking with the receptionist, who seemed to smell strongly of alcohol, or possibly another unpleasant odor. The property has potential, but communication, consistency of service and attention to guests need work.

The restaurant staff were rude and unfriendly, and that took away from the comfort of an otherwise peaceful stay. In contrast, the spa was the highlight. The therapists from Bali were skilled and professional, and their careful techniques made the treatments feel deeply restorative and luxurious. Gulhi itself is beautiful, with a calm Maldivian character, lovely beaches and a quiet atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and switch off. The serene setting and excellent spa made the stay memorable. I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for wellness treatments, relaxation and healing in the Maldives.
