Ulisa Bay Lodge

Chris was so helpful with all the logistics. We arrived very late on the Ilala, and he coordinated with us, had our rooms ready early in the morning, helped arrange transport, and booked a ride back on another local boat. The staff were friendly and helped organize a trip around the island by boat. The food was consistently excellent, especially the fish and chicken. The lodge sits right on the coast, and some chalets are on a beach where you can swim and snorkel. Chris also has a lovely pottery studio and makes the restaurant’s beautiful plates, bowls, and mugs himself. He offers lessons as well. Likoma is small enough that we could walk to the iconic cathedral, town, and some other lodges. It’s a special place on a special island, and I hope to return someday.

I had a really enjoyable stay here. The owners and staff were super friendly and helpful, and I’d recommend the place to anyone after something different from a typical tourist lodge or location. The sunset over the lake is amazing too!

The view across the lake to Chizumulu island was lovely, and the food was good, especially the simple dishes. The rooms and atmosphere were fabulous, and the hospitality was outstanding. From the entrance, the place has a wonderfully traditional, natural feel. It’s truly an amazing place to visit, and I’d encourage people to go.

The team at Ulisa Bay made us feel welcome from the start, all those smiling faces. They even came right to the boat to help us get off, which was a huge help. They also gave reliable information about getting to and from the island and knew the boat captains, useful since travel can be difficult and unreliable. The beach and views from the chalets are superb, just right for relaxing, reading, or sunbathing. The food was absolutely delicious, with lots of choices, which is rare on such a small, remote island. Nothing else in town really compares. Thanks for everything. This sunny, beachy place is an experience I’ll always remember!
