Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel

The employees were warm and professional, and greeted me and asked how I was so often each day that I lost count. Special thanks to the kind woman who cleaned room 125 each morning and came to spray for mosquitoes. The grounds are lovely, with green grass, trees, and plants that go well with the building's white walls. I stayed for a week on a business trip and found it comfortable, clean, and safe, especially for being near Lilongwe Old Town. The bed was particularly comfortable, and the rooms were pleasant without being ultra luxurious. It seems the place may once have been quite exclusive; it could use a little renovation to modernise it in the coming years, though I still enjoyed staying there. Breakfast was decent, with lots of choices, including local dishes and local versions of Western food. I especially liked the fresh fruit and pastries. Dinner had an interesting buffet with plenty to choose from, including chambo fish and nsima. Just my preference, but one more vegetarian choice at dinner might be nice.

The room was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed the evening buffet. It’s a convenient spot in the center, though the rooms feel old fashioned and average for the price. The pool was small, not really for doing laps, and wasn’t very clean during my visit.

Breakfast and dinner had a great range of buffet options, and having a mosquito net in the room was really useful. There’s also a nice garden and pool. I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting Lilongwe.

I had a good three-night stay at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel, though road noise could be heard. There was plenty of choice at the buffet meals, but room service had a fairly limited menu. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and housekeeping kept them that way. The sheets looked more cream than white.
