We spent a lot of time by the pool since sargassum covered much of the turquoise water. It can smell pretty strong, though the resort seemed to be doing what it could to manage it and keep guests comfortable. Worth keeping in mind during sargassum season. The setting is a real plus: the hotel sits on a lovely bay, away from the busy tourist beaches and vendors, and most restaurants face the ocean. Even the buffet has a great view. The food was decent, with enough to enjoy if you keep expectations realistic. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well kept. The beds were good and the A/C worked perfectly. We had a great stay and would come back. Four out of five for us.

We’re on day five of a week here, and I’m already enjoying the place a lot. We’ve gotten into every restaurant without waiting, and most of the food has been very good. We aren’t vegan, but the menus have so little without cheese that it might be hard for someone who is. The staff are lovely. Servers and bartenders are friendly, and people around the resort always have time for a cheerful Hola. Service has been top notch, except for the towels: once they’re brought to the main pool, they disappear within minutes, and you may wait a while to get one. It’s also frustrating that guests keep beach and pool chairs claimed all day. Barbara’s yoga class was wonderful, 90 minutes in a beautiful palapa right by the ocean. I also had a fabulous, very relaxing facial at the spa, and the bands at the main bar have been excellent most nights. We haven’t seen turtles, but there have been lots of colorful, interesting fish and stingrays. The location and amenities are superb. I don’t understand the poor reviews; this is exactly what I hoped for, and we’ll be back.

The only part we didn’t enjoy was the bus ride from the airport. I’d strongly recommend private transportation. We went in March 2026 and loved the resort. It’s small enough to walk across in a few minutes, which was just what we wanted. On arrival, it felt beautiful and tropical, and the view from our room was amazing. I think all the rooms have a water view. We tried all four à la carte restaurants and thought the meals were fantastic, especially the Brazilian steakhouse. The staff were excellent. Alan in customer service went way above and beyond, and German was always around to help by the pool. There were plenty of other helpful people too, though I can’t remember their names. Evenings had just the right amount of music: Raymond played for a while, then bands came on for an hour or two. It wrapped up around 10:30 or 11, so it wasn’t too late. It’s not a big party place, which suited us perfectly. We’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing resort, and can’t wait to return.

We loved how flexible the kids club was. The children could drop in and leave when they wanted, and usually stayed for 1-2.5 hours a day because they were having such a good time. There’s a dedicated room, but activities also happen around the resort. Myrna and Karla were engaging caregivers, and Oscar was great on the day they needed a higher staff ratio. They led all sorts of fun things: sandcastle building, a pirate and treasure hunt, traditional Mexican crafts, baking, and painting. Christmas was especially fun. There are video games and movies in the building, but the caregivers checked with us about how much screen time we were comfortable with. Activities were usually going on, while kids who needed a rest or siesta could simply relax. We’d expected a beautiful, laid-back beach setting at Akumal Bay beach and wellness, but hadn’t realized there would be so much for young children to do. We were glad to be surprised. We loved the relaxing hotel and were grateful for the babysitting help now and then. The kids enjoyed themselves, and we got some quality time as a couple alongside family memories.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, with a level of service I haven’t experienced anywhere else. This is a calm place for the beach and pool, not a party resort, and there’s a good mix of daytime activities. The rooms were wonderful, and the covered paths, elevators in each building, and stair-free routes make getting around accessible. The buffet was just okay, but all the à la carte restaurants were fantastic. We had a blissfully relaxing stay and will definitely come again. Also, listen to Alejandro’s turtle talk if you can. It’s educational and hilarious.
