Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas - Historical Hotel

The people here made the week special. The staff were warm and humble, and shared fascinating stories about the history and culture that made the place feel alive. There’s plenty to do if you want: swimming, running, horseback riding, tennis, or just walking around and taking in the scenery. Or you can do nothing. The temazcal and spa were lovely ways to unwind. The food was another favorite, with authentic Mexican flavors that felt well balanced and left me satisfied without feeling weighed down. The setting is beautiful and well cared for, and the building goes back to 1521. The rooms are decorated in such individual ways that each stay could feel different, and the master suites are jaw-dropping. The photos give you an idea, but seeing them is something else. I spent an unforgettable week here and already want to come back. It’s about two hours from Mexico City, and whether you’re traveling alone, with family, or for a quiet work retreat, there’s something here for you. More than just a hotel, it’s an experience I’ll treasure.

The grounds were immaculate, and the staff paid close attention to us. We loved our stay, and the wedding venue was beyond beautiful.

The service didn’t match the room prices. We were there for a wedding, and our room, meant to be ready at 3 pm, wasn’t available until 5:30. I was a bridesmaid with a rehearsal dinner that night, so I had to shower and get ready in the bride and groom’s room. The event was supposed to have an open bar, but they set up their own bar at the venue and charged guests, me included, for drinks even though the alcohol and catering had already been paid for. They put the bar by the main entrance, and many guests bought drinks there.

What a bizarre experience. The website says the hacienda has a restaurant, but when we arrived, the guard rudely refused to let us in and gave no explanation. We were considering coming back to stay, so I asked if we could at least see the hotel. That was refused too. I wouldn’t drive out of my way to visit. It didn’t seem like they actually wanted guests.
