Hotel Circulo Bacalar

The laundry was cheap and quick, but it put holes in my very expensive clothes, which cost a lot more than their scrappy towels. And when we checked out, the staff accused us of taking a tired, ragged hand towel. We hadn't taken it, and the accusation held up check-out and made us all uncomfortable. We're not thieves, and if we were going to steal, we'd have much higher standards than those towels. The staff had been helpful enough until then. We came in September with family, including older people, so I chose this place despite it being a bit away from the main area. The listing said food was available all day, but because it was probably out of season, we only found out on arrival that food was available just at breakfast, which was basic. The pool bar was closed on some days during a Mexican holiday because they didn't staff it. We got no service at the bar on our first night because the barman was busy chatting with a friend, so we cleared our own table. He still happily took a sizeable tip when he said he had no change. We did manage to order good sushi delivery to the hotel on a few evenings. The family bungalow wasn't all on one story as you'd expect from the word bungalow, and there was a problem with it, so we couldn't all stay together. That was the main reason I'd chosen this place over others. The rooms were big but felt quite bare, like they could use a rug or a painting for some comfort. I used the laundry service, as I mentioned, and it also made the stay harder. Bacalar is beautiful to visit. Would I recommend this place? Maybe, but there are probably better options in Bacalar.
