Manon G.
I’d stayed at Casa XULA several times over the past three years and never had a problem. When Nina ran the place from 2022 to 2024, things were always in order. Recently, she hired someone to manage it, a “Karen” whose name is also Karen. On my latest stay I noticed several problems, and after a disrespectful encounter I left overnight. The owners seem to invest very little in the apartments, which affects guests’ comfort. The internet was extremely slow, so I had to use my hotspot for work, and watching a movie wasn’t possible. The “equipped kitchen” had only the bare minimum, with no coffee maker or basic utensils for making a normal meal. Nobody cleaned the apartment or took out my trash for a whole week, and there were no cleaning supplies. On January 1, the water was off all day, from morning until evening. Nobody told me they’d come to fix it, and then they arrived unexpectedly very late at night. I woke to people repeatedly making noise outside my window and door, running with heavy footsteps. I was shocked and opened the window to ask if everything was okay and to please stop running because people were sleeping. I was direct but respectful. I didn’t know they were maintenance workers, since they looked and acted like guests. The water issue had been reported hours earlier. Who would expect maintenance at midnight? The next day, instead of acknowledging that they could have told me about the late repair, they asked me to leave and accused me of being rude. They also said I’d made a mess with my cigarettes. I’d put all the butts in a tightly sealed little plastic bag outside by my window, so there was no smell or mess. I regret that the place is far from downtown. If you stay here, don’t expect friendly help, cleaning, or basic communication.
