Please be careful if someone approaches you at the airport, and confirm transportation directly with your resort or a provider you’ve verified. Our trouble began just after landing, when a man named Gerardo Guerrero said he was our arranged ride to the resort. We knew transportation would cost extra, so at first it didn’t seem suspicious. He said he’d be in a white Dodge Ram or white Mercedes, but neither showed up. Instead, he took us into what felt like a sales pitch, saying we only had to visit a property for 45 minutes. That visit took more than six hours of our vacation, which was frustrating and disappointing. He said he worked for the property and that they were trying to grow, and told us he’d get paid if we booked with them on a future visit. That made the pressure feel even more deceptive. He was persuasive and tried to build trust by relating to where I’m from, which made it all feel more misleading. We still had to pay for a taxi ourselves, and none of the activities were covered, not even partly as he’d implied. If I could give this a negative rating, I would. Our experience started terribly.

We really enjoyed our stay and would come back, even though this resort costs more than the last one we used. For us, the price was worth paying for the location, close to town and about a 10-minute walk to the marina. We’d enjoyed Cabo on a visit a couple of years ago and wanted to return, so we chose Grand Solmar Lands End. The resort is well maintained, and the associates are friendly and always ready to help. We stayed five nights and booked through Costco, which included four $50 certificates for the spa. I liked it so much that I went twice. Ivet was my masseur both times, and that was the highlight of the trip for me. The pools were in great shape, and staff were always available for food and drink orders. It could be hard to find a chair, but we always managed, and there were plenty of towels. We thought the food was good, though we preferred eating in town. Do yourself a favor and reserve a table at Mother’s Flower. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Veronica, our housekeeper, was lovely and did a great job. We arrived after Christmas, when whales were everywhere. We saw one within 10 minutes of sitting on the balcony and spotted at least 10 a day, so bring binoculars.

It’s a very sad day for Grand Solmar Lands End. We’ve owned a timeshare here for 15 years and only just heard that Manny Teniente, the lead Bell Captain and the heart and soul of the resort, was let go two days ago for “restructuring.” I can’t understand what the owners are thinking, and hope they realize how much this will affect the resort. Manny made every person he greeted feel like the most important person in the world, every day, and always went above and beyond to make the guest experience exceptional. His example showed in all the bell staff, who are truly magnificent too. I’m so disappointed with GSLE.

The pools were nice and the facility seemed mostly well kept, but our room’s AC sounded like a train. Check-in was disappointing from the start. The front desk guy pushed us to buy a meal plan and said the King Suite we’d booked wasn’t a good room. He offered to move us to the seventh floor if we would “take care of him,” meaning give him money or buy something. Right after that, a woman approached us to sell timeshares. The sales pressure was extremely high.

We had a large family group of 13, including three kids, and the property was big enough for us to spend time together or have space alone. There’s a good mix of areas for children and adults. Check out the kids’ club: the activities and food were fun, and the inclusive bracelet covers it all except for a small charge on some activities. It’s worth it, but sign up 24 hours ahead. We also needed medical help when my five-year-old daughter fell and split her chin open. The doctor was calm, put her at ease, and stitched her up right there in the property’s medical center. She was all fixed up within an hour. The rooms are well furnished, and the kitchen has what you need to prepare food, which we did a few times for fun. The restaurants are wonderful. We loved the sushi at the Asian Lounge and by the pool, La Roca was delicious at any time of day, and we kept coming back for breakfast. Las Brisas had a nice selection of Mexican and American classics. Don Luis was more upscale and refined, with a menu that changes daily and entertaining singers and dancers with real talent. We bought the all-inclusive bracelet and thought it was worth the money. It covers most food and drinks, including alcohol. A few items are offered at a 50% or 15% discount instead of being included, but I always chose something on the included menu and never felt restricted. The staff work incredibly hard, are fun to be around, and go the extra mile to make you feel special. Pool service was on point, with lots of seating and shade parasols. There are plenty of pools and hot tubs, winding around the beautiful, well-kept grounds. Be back for this kind of experience? My family and I will. Thanks Grand Solmar!
