Hotel del Sol

We got early check-in thanks to the very nice staff. There's a rooftop lounge with chairs and tables and a view over everything. There was also a small bath, shower or pool up there, but I couldn't tell what it was for. It had no water, just a shower spigot. The room covered the basics, but the bed wasn't very comfortable, and the shower temperature and pressure were so-so. There's a TV, a small desk, a cubby for your things, and free self-serve coffee in the morning. It served its purpose. It's near a small beach within walking distance, an OXXO and a few restaurants. Restaurant Mandiga was good. The ferry to Isla Mujeres is close, too. Not the best, not the worst.

The area felt a little sketchy, with few tourists around. I wouldn't feel safe there alone or with kids. Apart from that, the hotel was good for a budget stay. The beds worked for me, though someone who wants a fancy mattress may not like them. Staff were friendly and spoke a little English. There are lots of taxi drivers around who call out to you and try to sell you a ride, which was annoying.

It had the basic necessities, but the room felt cramped. The shower pressure wasn't enough for a normal shower, and the old air conditioner pointed right at the bed. There wasn't really another place for it to point because the room was so small. The nearby beach isn't the best.

I stay here every time I come because the location is super convenient. Food, housekeeping and clean sheets are all good, and I've never had an issue with safety. The guys and woman at the desk are happy to help you get settled if a room becomes available.
