Ocean Spa Hotel – All Inclusive

It's a nice place if you don't expect too much, but the beach is small and more like a harbor than the Cancun beach I had in mind. We found just one bartender who could make good drinks. The restaurants were decent, though menu descriptions didn't always match what arrived, especially for desserts. We ordered a cannoli and got something like sponge cake. When we showed the waiter a picture of a cannoli, he simply said the chef had told him that was a cannoli.

We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were kept neat, the staff were friendly, and the customer service was the best. Thanks to the chef, kitchen, prep team, and servers for the healthy food we loved. A shout-out to Jesus, the cool bartender, and to Enrique and Manuel in the dining area. Thank you so much.

The rooms were clean and spacious, with balconies, and we didn't see any bugs. Staff were very good and friendly, with good service. The Italian dining option was really good. The beach had nice sand and was big enough for this small resort, but the water was green and weedy. A large pile along the shore was cleaned up the next day, but there was still green stuff in the water where you'd want to walk in. I didn't go in, and neither did two new friends we made there. I didn't see anyone swimming there during our short week. We used the pool instead. You can visit three other hotels in the group, and one has an amazing beach where we did swim, but it took a while to get the shuttle there and back, eating into vacation time. If swimming at your own resort matters, this was a letdown. The buffet was small and hit or miss for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There weren't enough tasty choices; the scrambled eggs were often a bit wet, and there was no bacon. I didn't care for a couple of the authentic Mexican dishes, maybe because the recipes weren't great or maybe they just weren't to my taste. At the Mexican restaurant by the front lobby, the meat was tender and cooked well, but the food was bland and lacked seasoning. Salsa and sour cream helped with the tacos and fajitas. It wasn't bad, just underwhelming, especially for Mexico. Overall, the food was a little below average except for the Italian dishes. We missed the Asian dining night. Please add more food options. There are some shops nearby, but the resort is a bit farther from the shows and action, though it's a short bus ride for only $1. We liked the piña coladas, but they were too sweet. They could use a little less mix and a few percent more pineapple juice. For relaxing on the beach, tanning, and enjoying a good room and service, it may suit you, as long as you're okay with below average food and limited choices. We wouldn't stay here again.

The food was high quality, and the property itself is beautiful. We had a mostly enjoyable stay at the Ocean Spa Hotel and would come back for the beach and meals. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the staff greeted us kindly. Our ride from the airport was disappointing, though the driver after checkout was professional, friendly, and courteous. Service in the dining areas felt uneven, and staffing could be better. With those gaps addressed, it would be a five-star stay.
