Wyndham Garden Cancun Downtown

This was my second visit, and after spending two full weeks here each time, I've come to love the hotel. The people make a big difference. About 99% are friendly, personable, nice, and helpful. The restaurant is good too, and plenty of other places with a festive atmosphere are practically next door or an easy walk away. There's even a Walmart within walking distance, though with the current unfavorable exchange rate, prices aren't as good as you'd expect. I came for complex dental procedures, and my clinic, Yeahsmile, is two blocks away. The clinic arranged both stays at a favorable rate.

Our original booking was abruptly cancelled, so I called Wynham Garden. The person on the phone was very nice and quoted a two-night stay in a king-sized bed with free breakfast. I confirmed the details and asked for the TOTAL price, and he confirmed it was within our budget, so we booked. At arrival, the front desk guy seemed unaware of the booking and wasn't friendly. After we gave him our details, he quoted TWICE what we'd been told on the phone. That felt deceptive, but we had nowhere else to stay. He also couldn't confirm whether breakfast was included. We got two beds instead of the quoted king. The shower wasn't clean, and I wore shower sandals for the first time in a hotel. The hotel felt safe, other staff were friendly, but construction made it LOUD. We asked about breakfast again that evening, and they gave it to us. The breakfast food and selection were good, until I saw a small ROACH walking toward our table as we were leaving. The location was convenient for most Cancun activities and Xcarte bus pickups. The stay was fine overall, but they seem to rely on the convenient location and could do better with cleanliness and communication. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to stay again. If you need to, I'd suggest paying ahead so you don't get overcharged.

My family and I ended up here for one night after United cancelled our flight. The bed was comfortable, which is the one good thing I can say. The buffet was awful, staff were rude, and the hotel smelled bad. Towels had holes and a yellow tinge, and I could hear the guest next door snoring all night. The area was dirty and felt a little shady, honestly. I don't understand the four-star rating or why people choose to stay here. I can't believe this is a Wyndham, has anyone from corporate actually visited?

Jashia at the front desk was especially helpful, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We had a great stay, and got a great recommendation for our Cancún beach adventure.
