We had a nice stay and enjoyed the location and the chance to just relax. We’d originally booked an Airbnb nearby, but it was "no bueno," so we moved here for two nights. After reading the reviews and having stayed in lots of places around Mexico, I had a pretty good sense of what to expect. The water gave us some trouble, as it does in many parts of Mexico, but we managed. Alberto assured me he’d get it fixed. Kevin was also a great, attentive host, and Alberto’s wife was gracious and welcoming, though I can’t remember her name.

The room was clean, and dinner was okay with reasonable portions, but at 1400mx$ or about £70 a night, we were disappointed. The first night the shower was freezing, and on the second day there was no water in either the shower or sink. When we said we didn’t want a waterfall tour and would rather hike on our own, our host reacted very frostily. We also took a tour to Urique with their driver Jaime. He made three personal stops first and only mentioned the Mirador charge after we came out, even though the tour had been advertised as all inclusive. Once there, he kept pushing us to eat at his brother’s restaurant. He even tried to say he would take only two guests to their next hotel unless they ate there.

The rooms were nicely decorated, the food was absolutely delicious, and our hosts were really kind. They arranged tours so we could explore the fantastic landscapes around Cerocahui. We did have some shower and internet issues, but the stay was definitely worth it.

I didn’t feel welcome, and communicating with the host was unnecessarily difficult. There was no internet, no heating, no socket by the bed, and the water pressure was poor. You also have to ask for hot water. I left without unpacking and went to Misión Hotel instead. It cost a lot more, but you get what you pay for. I’d stayed here a few years ago because Cerocahui has very few budget options, and thought I’d give it another try. The same problems were still there. It really doesn’t reflect the warm, friendly welcome you can expect from the tourist industry here as a whole. The place doesn’t feel professionally run.

Right on the square, with breakfast and evening meals available. They also offer a great full-day town tour to Urique, where the taramarmara people run their 90k race barefoot every year. It’s well worth the trip, and you can hike down in about three hours for an amazing day out.
