Toca Madera

My wife and I stayed three days, and they treated us like family. The rooms were really clean, and the dining area was great. The food was amazing too. From the front desk to the cook, everyone was kind, and we were welcomed warmly when we arrived. Rodolfo went above and beyond to make the stay memorable. Toca Madera has a lovely family feel, and I wish every hotel had staff this good. If you're visiting the Lake Chapala area, give it a try. Thanks!

We don't usually write reviews, but this felt unfair. We paid $1,200 Mexican pesos for one night and got just three hours of rest before an early airport trip, but the hotel wouldn't refund any of the stay. The first room had a chewed-up-looking headboard, and after what happened there, we took apart the second room to check it before sleeping. The man asked us to leave our belongings in the first room so we wouldn't contaminate the next one. We have videos showing the room and proof that this happened at this hotel. At about 10:00 pm, we noticed bed bugs while lying down. We killed a few, took the whole room apart, then realized the staff had finished for the day. The emergency number didn't work until we remembered to dial Mexico's 01152 area code. After checking the bed carefully, we were exhausted and dozed off, but I woke up with bugs right in front of my eyes. We jumped out of bed, itchy and uncomfortable. Emergency help took about 20-30 min to arrive. The man was kind and apologetic, and moved us to the room at the far back on the right. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! We found BED BUGS in the first-floor bedroom, first door on the left when walking out to the garden. PLEASE BEWARE, THIS HOTEL WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY. The staff were friendly during our stay, especially the girl at the front counter, who we appreciated very much. Chapala is a beautiful city, but this was the roughest, itchiest, most restless night we've had.

The chilaquiles were pretty good, and the basic menu had the usual options. My only issue was our waiter. At first he seemed indifferent, then my little cousin arrived and he suddenly wouldn't leave us alone. He kept interrupting our conversation and hitting on her, telling her how gorgeous she was. Her mother was right there, and I thought his advances were tacky and disruptive to our meal.

The service was terrible, and the rooms were tiny with nothing included. They said there was AC, but the rooms didn't have it and were hot as hell. The woman even had the nerve to say no hotels in Chapala have AC, smh. I don't recommend this place. We stayed one night and won't go back. Go next door. For $100 more, you get nicer rooms, breakfast, a pool, a hot tub, and great service. You have to try the club sandwich 🔥🔥🔥
