TRYP by Wyndham Chetumal

The rooms were awful, even though reception and the pool area look nice. With the air conditioning off, there was a strong musty smell, and the bed felt damp. The indoor pool sits right outside the rooms in the atrium, so humidity may be the cause. Turning on the A/C hours before guests arrive might help a little. There were stains on the sheets, and the room didn’t seem clean. I also found a cockroach in the shower and heard strange sounds from the vent. I told reception, got mosquito repellent that wasn’t helpful, and was told someone would come in five minutes. Nobody showed up. I’ve had few hotel rooms worse than this one, and I’m not looking forward to breakfast tomorrow.

The waterfront and good restaurants are easy to get to from here. I stayed while traveling with Fly Fishing Chetumal. The room was clean, though housekeeping sometimes didn’t get to it until late afternoon. Breakfast and the room were nothing special, but both were perfectly adequate.

The rooms run a little smaller than others, but I’ll stay here again when I’m in the area. The location is excellent and so is the staff.

The receptionist spoke excellent English, and the pool area was clean. The room was basic and clean enough, but the walls are thin, so you hear nearby neighbors. Water pressure was poor, more of a trickle, and the water was barely lukewarm. The hot breakfast dishes weren’t hot, though the taste was OK. I’d put this at around 2.5 to 3 stars, not four. If you want a true 4 star hotel, this isn’t it.
