Hotel Cadiz

Good value, and very good.

I like giving less well-known places a chance and leaving feedback that could help other guests and the establishment. This time, though, I have to be blunt. I don't think the room price was excessive for the season, but the cockroaches were unacceptable. When I arrived, three huge ones greeted me, two in the bathroom and one by the entrance. I killed seven insects during our one-night stay. The children with me could hear them walking around early in the morning, and they didn't even want to use the toilet because of how many we found. I woke in the middle of the night to an insect eating one that was already dead. Along with a barking dog, a squawking peacock (?), and the cockroaches crawling around, it was a dreadful night. Their size was traumatic for the kids, and as a parent I had to inspect every suitcase so we wouldn't bring one home. There was no air conditioning or even a fan. The TV remote didn't work, and the cable signal had lots of problems. There's no restaurant, and I doubt I would have dared eat there. I regret that I can't recommend this place, especially for families with children, unless you're an insect lover or enjoy garden wildlife. Two stars because of all this 😔😔 Mr. Rodolfo at reception was always attentive. They do have a very strict fumigation "control," but it didn't seem effective, since cockroaches came out from under the beds. I think the poor state of the pipes and facilities in general is to blame. The garden doesn't seem like a reason for so many insects either, which have become a serious infestation.

How much is a night's stay?

I've been coming to this charming, modest old hotel with my parents since I was a child. I still enjoy the place despite the changes in management, and hope they keep improving the experience. It's relatively affordable and very close to the city center, about a 10-minute walk to the Zócalo, Cathedral, Borda Garden, and other places. The only times I haven't stayed were when it was full and I hadn't booked ahead.
