I paid around 180 pesos per night to camp, which seems a more reasonable option here. The economy rooms have outdoor toilets, and the state of them was simply unacceptable for the price. They hadn't been cleaned in months, I'm not kidding. After I asked if someone could clean the outside toilet, one of the three employees, I think, kindly offered me an upgrade to a private room with its own toilet. The place looks abandoned and is very poorly maintained and cleaned. Service is extremely basic, with little to no attention to customers. I didn't try the restaurant after reading the reviews. They really should adjust the prices, which feel like they're from the place's glory days. If you're going by yourself to Yaxchilan, I’d take the day tour from Palenque instead. You can’t spend much more than an hour at the ruins anyway, since you have to leave when the boat returns. That makes staying here worthwhile only if you really need to.

Bring your own mosquito net, and be ready to be flexible about dinner since they may not have every ingredient. The restaurant closes at 6 pm, and keep in mind there's a one-hour time difference. Wi-Fi doesn't reach the rooms and is slow in the restaurant. Still, the location is great, and you can hear howler monkeys at night. The simple accommodation was clean.

The restaurant food was very good and reasonably priced, and the staff were helpful and nice. Our room at Escudo Jahuar had its own bathroom, which was clean, and a shower with excellent pressure and hot water. The bed was very comfy, too. We had a very pleasant stay and would recommend spending at least a night here while visiting the wonderful ruins of Yaxchilan.

The ruins nearby are pretty, and the room had several power outlets. The restaurant food is basic, but fairly priced. Our room itself was dirty, with smudges and stains on the walls. There was no toilet seat, and the soap dispenser had two dead bugs in it. The towels were worn, the sheets had holes, and there were holes in the mosquito protection. You could hear everything from the neighboring rooms. Wi-Fi was only available in the restaurant, and stopped working on our second day.

The main reason to stay here is the location beside the Yaxchilan boat departure point, which lets you catch the first boat in the morning. I'd highly recommend doing that. The rooms were clean, but gloomy and badly in need of renovation, and much too expensive for the quality. The restaurant was mediocre at best. It feels like the hotel depends on its location and the lack of nearby places to stay.
