Erhu House

One of the trendiest hostels I've been to. The neighborhood is really in fashion, and the place looks great. There are nets and hammocks for lounging, plus a natural pool, a fish pond, and even a gym.

The location is really good, and the atmosphere is pleasant. You can properly relax and get some peaceful rest.

The staff were warm and friendly, which was the one good part of our stay. We still left two days before our booking ended because the problems added up. Our booked room was occupied when my partner and I arrived, so we were put in a tiny room and told we could move when the other guest left. The bed was fixed up near the ceiling, hard to climb into without hitting the walls, and even small movements meant bumping into them. Its mattress was split unevenly, leaving a gap I kept falling into. One pillow was rock hard; the other was just a pillowcase stuffed in a hurry. For four days we kept hearing that our booked room would be ready, so we never felt settled. On the last day, they said they only needed to make the bed. When we checked a few hours later, we were told someone else had been booked into it. There was late night drilling and hammering one night, then very loud parties on the others. During one party, children were yelling and playing at this adults only, clothing optional hostel, and one came into our room at 2am. The rooftop pool wasn't usable and had plants growing in it. Just one shower was working, and its broken handle meant the door wouldn't lock.

We had an 8am flight the next morning after arriving around 9pm from a long bus ride, but our room supposedly wouldn't be ready until 11pm. They did eventually find us somewhere to sleep, though the room was gross and covered in mould. When it rained, water came through the ceiling and door and soaked our belongings. My books and papers were ruined, including at least US$50 worth of books, and I had to pay to get other things reprinted. A large group at the hostel partied and shouted until 4am, so we couldn't sleep before our flight. I've tried several times to contact the hostel about a refund, but haven't heard back. Hostel World said they couldn't do anything. I really would like my money back.
