San Francisco Plaza Hotel

For a quieter night, ask for a room facing one of the inner courtyards. The street facing rooms can get festive noise, which may disturb your sleep. The superior rooms are much nicer than the regular ones and often have French Balconies. This is a lovely historic hotel, with an on-site restaurant serving a breakfast buffet. As of May 2026, breakfast cost 175 pesos. I’d also try Restaurant Mary, just around the corner if you turn left out the front door. It’s a casual neighborhood spot, nothing fancy, but the food is well prepared and very reasonably priced. The people working there are some of the nicest in all of Guadalajara.

From the many courtyards, I woke to birds chirping after a great night’s sleep in the world’s biggest bed. The room had 20’ ceilings, chunky antique regional furniture, and marble-topped everything. The architecture is gorgeous, with beautiful touches throughout, but there’s no extortionate price tag. The location is ridiculously convenient for the historic centre, too. It felt like a dream. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place became a fancy hotel in the not too distant future, and I’d definitely stay here again.

The room was a little small, but that’s what you’d expect in a building this old. I was worried after reading both the positive and negative reviews, since I’m usually picky about where I stay. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised: the hotel had a cute charm and the rooms seemed very clean. My family also enjoyed the cute buffet in the courtyard. We had a great stay, and I’ll be back.

I felt safer calling an Uber to get back after a late night than walking the five blocks to the hotel. It’s on the edgier part of town, something to keep in mind as a woman traveling alone. The hotel itself is older, but the beds were comfortable, even without a box spring. I asked for ice in the evening, but couldn’t get any because the kitchen closes at noon, and there are no vending machines. The staff are very nice.
