This charming historic Hotel Mesón del Rosario was built in 1749, and it’s clean, with lovely rooms and a really kind team. We showed up unexpectedly a day before our reservation, and Martha at the desk helped fit us in. The Central District location puts shops, restaurants, and activities nearby, and El Jardín de la Unión is about a five-minute walk away. The park is lovely and always lively. I highly recommend staying here.

The location and style were great, and the mattress was hard but okay. I stayed on level 2 on the left, where music from downstairs played all day until maybe 2-3am. The window was only thin glass, so it did little to block it, and earplugs barely helped. The male manager seemed really nice, but one receptionist, who I later learned was Martha, was unpleasant. I came back around 6pm carrying water and groceries, and she stopped me and asked to see my wrist. I didn’t know why. She took a call without explaining anything, and when I asked if there was a problem, she just looked at me like I should wait. The manager then asked if I had a wristband. I said nobody had given me one. He asked if I was staying there, and I reminded him he’d checked me in the day before. He realized and gave me the band. I felt the receptionist looked me up and down like I was a thief. They also refused to store my luggage, even though I said I’d be back the next day and offered to pay. That was inconvenient.

The room smelled so bad I felt like throwing up. The TV was unplugged, and though I tried the power button, it barely worked and looked ancient. There was no Wi-Fi, and the hotel felt like a ghost town. I booked a room, and they told me it would take an hour to clean. I came back five hours later and they still hadn’t started, so I had to take a smaller room than the one I’d booked. It felt like they couldn’t be bothered to clean, even though they had plenty of time. They also tried to sell me a room for twice the online price. The receptionist, “MARTHA,” was rude and disrespectful, gave me dirty looks, and spoke with a disgusting attitude. I should’ve gone to another hotel. I don’t recommend it, I’m never coming back, and they should fire MARTHA.

The towels were the best! The hotel was cute, clean, and just like the photos, with a great location and good service. There’s no AC, but the box fan they provided was enough. When we asked for more hangers, they went out and bought some. They don’t provide drinking water, though there’s an Oxxo two doors away. I wouldn’t choose it again because I like having a rooftop or patio to sit and take in the city. There’s only one balcony, and the view from it is partial. Other city center hotels I’ve stayed at have better views and patio space. If that doesn’t matter to you, this place is great.

Ricardo was fantastic, both in service and attitude. The best parts were the location, towels, and a pretty clean room. We booked through Orbitz, and while I knew it was on the cheaper side, I’ve had much better stays for the same price in other towns. Our room was on the third floor with no elevator. There was hot water only from 7am-noon, no AC, and no drinking water. The bathroom combined the toilet, sink, and shower, which I’ve seen before. The mattress was quite hard. The building must have been cute once, but it feels aged and needs TLC. Smoke from people on the balcony below seeped into our room badly. If you need laundry, the hotel doesn’t provide it, but Lavandería Caracol is a short walk away.
