Hotel Alikar Huatulco

We stayed for two weeks with another couple, and we were the only white guests. Most staff didn't speak English, and the menus were only in Spanish. One restaurant worker spoke English and was extremely pleasant. Google Translate helped us a lot. We only saw the buffet once, and there was barely any food, so we ate out. Six beers in a bucket cost 160 pesos. The WiFi worked really well in the rooms, lobby, and by the pool. The rooms were very clean, with a cute towel animal on the bed each day. We got a mini fridge when we asked, plus two bottles of water left out daily. The AC worked great. There was plenty of hot water, but the pressure on the third floor wasn't great, and with no elevator, walking up three flights got tiring. The pool temperature was good. It could've been cleaner, since kids often brought grass in. Gum stuck to the side stayed there the full two weeks. Most loungers were cracked and had no pads, and a lot of families didn't seem to respect the property. With full sun from 9AM to 2:30PM, an umbrella would've helped. We were told the waterfall wasn't turned on because it was too loud. I think the white noise would be nice, and if they're not using it, they should at least clear the garbage out of it. The location was great. We walked a lot, and cabs were very inexpensive. Good value for the price.

The staff were nice, and the location was convenient, with everything just a short drive away. Still, it felt more like a 3-star hotel than a 4-star one. The rooms and hotel looked a bit dated, and most guests seemed to be local. Pool parties happened most nights until 11 pm, and the noise reached our room on the third floor. We also heard people yelling and acting badly in the hallways late at night, while staff didn't seem to address it. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you want somewhere peaceful and relaxing.

There's lots of street food on every corner, which is what I wanted. Room service was great, and they were always willing to help if they could. The rooms were good and the bathroom was spacious, but it had no exhaust fan. Opening the door let the smell into the room. If you don't speak Spanish, don't stay here, since they don't have English-speaking staff.

The area felt safe and clean, even walking around late, and it was easy to get to the beach in 10 minutes, old town in 10, and the supermarket in 5. The hotel is near the main road, but traffic noise wasn't a problem. It's also fairly close to the airport. I stayed about two nights and would come back. The place was clean and central in Crucecita, with a pool for adults and kids and a bar nearby serving drinks, beer, snacks, and food. The AC kept the room cold. The balcony was a nice size, and the bathroom wasn't too big or too small.
