With six rooms, this feels more like a guesthouse than a hotel. The beach in front is one of the best stretches on the island, wide and with very little seaweed. At other hotels there’s barely a beach, or it’s covered in smelly seaweed. I’m in my mid-40s and no longer interested in the party lifestyle, so I liked how quiet it was. It’s far enough from the main centre to avoid the noise, but still only a 10-15 minute walk to the shops and restaurants. There are also some excellent, low-key restaurants and bars within two blocks if you’d rather skip the centre.

The property was very well maintained, from inside the rooms to the grounds and beach. It was quiet and a little off-centre, but still a short walk from shops, restaurants, and a beach bar. During our stay, the beach here was the cleanest around. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is checkout. The staff were inflexible and couldn’t get us a taxi on time. They didn’t seem concerned that we might miss our ferry and arrive late at the airport.

It’s so peaceful here, and the staff were super helpful. Our room was spacious and clean, and the beach is literally a few steps away. The centre of Holbox is about a 15-minute walk. Perfect place to stay on the island, highly recommend!

Holbox is rustic, and Casa Takywara really leans into that. It’s literally on the beach, with sand between the different parts of the hotel. We were choosing between here and AWA, and I’m very glad we picked Casa Takywara. We stayed in the penthouse room, which was fantastic and easily up to 5-star standards. It’s also a great location, about a 10-minute walk to the centre.

I stayed for four nights in low season, right at the end of hurricane and rainy season. The staff were all lovely and helpful, and the rooms were fantastic, stylish, and clean. I felt very comfortable relaxing in my room or in the terrace hammock while it rained. When the sun came out, the beach loungers were only about a 90-second walk from my room. I chose the in-house breakfast outside my room. It was lovely and the portions were huge, though the same every day.
