Juan made my milestone birthday trip really memorable. The owner and his family were incredibly attentive, and the private pool was lovely. This is a small boutique hotel with just 8 rooms, tucked in a quiet, safe spot in the heart of the island. There’s plenty of street parking, Chedraui and lots of little shops nearby, plus a fridge in the room and excellent air conditioning. Beaches and snorkeling are an easy moped or golf cart ride away, and there are amazing taquerias around every corner. Pharmacia can deliver through WhatsApp, which is handy if you’re a sunburned tourist in need of aloe.

Juan is a really sweet host. It’s a clean, decent place to come back to after a long day or evening at the beach, even if it’s nothing fancy. The water pressure is low and the water isn’t always hot. If you like the AC on, ask for another blanket, since there was only a thin cotton one.

The restaurant’s fresh, homemade food was outstanding, and the service there was attentive. Our spacious, very clean house had comfortable beds, good A/C, and tasteful decor. We stayed two nights at Casa Ka’an Lima-Limon while exploring the region: me and my family, including one grandmother, two parents, and children aged 8 and 9. After staying at other places in Xpujil, I’d say this is by far the best choice around, with a great price-value ratio. The forest setting is peaceful, and it’s well placed for trips to Calakmul, el Hormiguero, Kohunlich, and Balamku, which is a must-see. Visit the bat cave in the evening. For Calakmul, ask for a lunch box instead of the free breakfast, leave very early, around 5am, and drive slowly and carefully to see more wildlife. Balamku is a small site with outstanding frisos. The owners are lovely, and the woman was especially kind, attentive, and humble. The place has a peaceful, welcoming feel, and the prices are good and affordable. I stayed at Casa Kaan this weekend and it was absolutely worth it. It’s a nice, beautiful place, and I’d happily stay again. I recommend it to you. Enjoy! 😉
