Casa Arecas

Our room had an outstanding view, but the stay came with a lot of problems. We had no hot water at all, not because it was broken, but because it apparently doesn't exist here. That may be normal in some places, but guests should be told before check-in. The power also went out once. That wasn't the hotel's fault, but it wasn't ideal. On what became our last night, the AC broke in the middle of the night. I woke up soaked in sweat, and the dress I'd hung on a chair underneath it for New Year's Eve was drenched in AC water. I'd put it there because the closet was only about three feet off the floor, so clothes would drag on the dirty floor. The bathroom setup, with the shower and toilet together, was odd. Its door locked itself from the inside, and staff were quick to bring us a screwdriver in case it happened again. It did. The service was attentive whenever something went wrong, and I felt bad for the kid who kept getting sent to deal with each issue. Playa Las Gatas is stunning, but it was packed with people, far too crowded for us. It was loud during the day because the beach was so congested, more than anywhere else we'd been in Zihua. At night and early in the morning, music was blasting nearby too, though I don't know where it came from.
