Puerta Del Mar Hotel

The resort grounds are immaculate, the pools are excellent, and there are several security guards around the complex at all hours. Staff are very nice and helpful. It's dated and the rooms aren't perfect, but our room had what we needed for breakfast or a simple meal: limited kitchen supplies, a microwave, a decent-sized fridge, coffee maker, and hot plate. I made do with the single universal gym machine, though it's no cruise ship gym. We love Ixtapa/Zihua and find this an inexpensive, nice Mexican resort. It's clean, secure, and the service is good. Given the price, I wonder what some of the negative reviewers expected. Don't expect the NYC Hilton. We haven't tried the restaurant, since it's across the street from Ixtapa centro, with dozens of restaurants and bars of all kinds. The beach is a short walk away. A cheap taxi will get you to Zihua for the big supermarket, fishing pier, and water taxi to Las Gatos beach. For the price, location, pools, and grounds, I'd give it five stars. We'll be back.

The walled complex has lovely gardens and beautiful pools, and it's popular with locals and Canadians. It's a charming but dated hotel and condo property, just two blocks from the beach. The upper floors face west and look out over the ocean.

I wouldn't recommend this place. The building is outdated, there are barely any outlets in the rooms, and they charge to park your car in the hotel's own lot. There were small bugs in the kitchen and on the sofa. The Wi-Fi is horrible, and the AC units don't work well. After two days they started leaking or stopped working altogether.

We'd stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family. The suites are spacious, clean, and very affordable, and the location is great. It's easy to walk to good food and shops, and plenty of buses pass by for exploring. We visited beautiful Playa Linda and Ixtapa Island.
