Hotel Rinconada del Convento

Suite #2, the king suite next door, faces the street and can be a little noisy. The location is perfect, and there’s a nice breakfast option. Don’t believe the posts saying there’s no hot water. It can take a minute to heat up, and finding the right spot is tricky, but it works fine after that.

Mixed feelings about this one. The good parts were the low price, decent rooms, a good shower, and a brilliant location. The service and communication really let us down. We were finishing our trip around yucatan and flying home the next day, so we had limited cash pesos and were trying to pay by card. The hotel was listed as accepting cards in the local yucatan magazine, and we confirmed that over the phone, but at check-in they insisted on cash. It turned into a standoff until they finally brought out the card machine, which worked fine. Breakfast had the same problem the next morning. The menus at the front desk said cards were accepted, but when we got to the restaurant, that had been crossed out on their menus. If we’d known, we could have withdrawn more cash. The taxi the hotel arranged was quoted at 150pesos, but the driver demanded 200pesos, leaving us in an awkward situation with our basic Spanish and the driver’s phone calls to various people. Each issue might have been minor on its own, but the poor communication affected how we felt about the hotel.

There are some issues with the room, but the view makes up for them :)

I really enjoyed my two-night stay at Hotel Rinconada del Convento. It’s centrally located and set up for a comfortable visit. The whole staff was very friendly. My room was large and bright, with a much better bed than the ones I’d slept on in rural Mexico. Internet worked in the bedroom, and I even had Netflix on the TV. The pool area was excellent. I’d highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Izamal!
