Hotel Hacienda sits a little over a kilometer from the central square, on the edge of town. That helps make it peaceful, but getting there is a 15-20 minute walk and taxis are unreliable, so having your own or a rental car may suit you better. We had the whole place to ourselves for both nights, so booking didn’t seem to be an issue. Our stay was very enjoyable. The suite was spacious and bright, and suited an intimate holiday, though some features were awkward: there were lots of steps that could trip you up, and the open shower and stone tub were difficult to use. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained, with a charming bar lounge, pool, and dining area. The candlelit dinner was excellent but pricey. Room rates seemed quite reasonable for the quality. The gracious, attentive owner and host greeted us on arrival and served complimentary drinks. It’s a lovely, relaxing place in charming Izamal, more like a small private resort than a hotel.

We had a great candlelit dinner and a freshly made breakfast, and there’s a nice pool. The hotel has 12 comfortable rooms set among park-like grounds, with good beds and safe car parking. It was a quiet, charming retreat, and the best hotel of our four-week trip. Highly recommended!

The town is an easy short walk away. We stayed two nights at Hacienda Hotel Santo Domingo, in separate cabins that were simple but comfortable and spotlessly clean. The setting was beautiful, the staff helpful and accommodating, and both meals were excellent: breakfast by the pool and dinner on the terrace. A magical place!

Breakfast by the pool was peaceful every morning, with five choices, fresh fruit, freshly baked bread, fresh-squeezed juice, and good coffee. The pool was cleared of fallen flowers several times a day, and the cool, clear water was perfect for an afternoon swim after walking around town in the heat. Our afternoon siestas stayed undisturbed. We arrived in town knowing we’d be ready for dinner, so we ate at the hotel that evening and were glad we did. The owner had sent the menu a few days beforehand and kindly adjusted our main dish to leave out the jalapeño. Dinner was freshly prepared, excellent, and full of lovely flavors, and dessert was amazing. The room was comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Its outdoor shower had mosquito netting to keep insects out, plenty of hot water, and great pressure. It felt like being in a movie, very romantic. Harald makes excellent cocktails at the poolside bar, and prices are very reasonable. We had a wonderful two days at this well-located hotel. It was quiet and clean, with fantastic attention and service. Thanks to all the pleasant staff for keeping the property so nice.

The romantic dinner was lovely and well worth having on the night we arrived. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The hotel itself is gorgeous, from the grounds and pool to the dining areas. It was easy to walk into town, and Izamal was an awesome little place. This was the best stay of our trip to Mexico.
