Hotel Balneario San Juan Cosalá

A great spot to unwind and enjoy the outdoors. They take credit cards, so you don't need to bring much cash, though it's still handy to have some Mexican pesos for small purchases.

I usually leave around 11, before the crowds arrive, after using all the hot water in the shower rooms. I live in town and come to the Balneario often, usually right at its 8 AM opening. At that hour, the staff are already cleaning every part of the place, including pressure washing the decks. The pools are drained on a rotating schedule throughout the year, and I've seen staff doing lifesaving training. Once, after a holiday weekend, I spotted a ring around the main pool, and someone was in there cleaning it within five minutes. I do love the place, even at $420, because good health is hard to put a price on. Still, I wouldn't choose the extra fancy section with the wine and oatmeal pools. Let's be honest, those pools don't seem to get changed at all.

A lovely way to spend the day, right on the shore of Lake Chapala. The hot springs are spread across a large water park, with pools at several temperatures and plenty of seating. There's a cave-like steam room, a specialty spa section with pools for an extra fee, and massages too. You can pick from several restaurants for food and drinks, or bring your own. There are areas for adults and for kids. I didn't stay overnight, just visited the springs.

Whenever I'm near GDL, I love bringing my family here. They've done new construction over the years, which I'm glad to see. Looking forward to coming back!
