City Express by Marriott Leon

The rooms are decent for the price. Breakfast was awful.

The noise was the worst part of my stay. I asked for a room away from the main avenue, but got one facing it, and traffic kept me awake much of the night. The suite I booked felt cramped, more like a dorm room, and the bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The walls are paper thin, too. Breakfast was limited, and the eggs were much too salty. The bathroom looked like the ones at other City Express locations, so at least that's consistent. The hotel also has the same yellow exterior and stale, dirty smell I've noticed at other City Express properties. There's an unmistakable City Express smell throughout. Check-in took ages. At checkout, things moved quickly, but the staff had an attitude. The hotel is closer to a motel, with bare-bones amenities, and falls well short of Marriott standards despite Marriott acquiring the City Express brand. It serves as affordable lodging, but it badly needs updating, maybe the whole brand does. If you're after a pleasant stay, steer clear of this yellow eyesore in León.

The location works really well, right by a plaza with a huge supermarket and other restaurants. It's clean and very new, with helpful staff who spoke excellent English. The rooms are a decent size for business travelers, and there are loads of outlets and WiFi, though no fridge. I'd recommend it for business trips, less so for families.

For a medium-priced hotel in 2015, this was just right. The beds were comfortable, and the decor felt crisp and clean. The bathroom was small but state of the art, with a water-saving toilet and Corian counter. There's a big desk and work area with power, USB, and network outlets. Staff were courteous and professional. I highly recommend this hotel brand.
