Bajo las Estrellas eco camp

I need to correct part of my earlier review: I hadn’t paid for the room yet, so the property was right about that. It was a misunderstanding with Booking.com, and the property told me to contact them about a refund. I was still turned away because they’d double-booked my spot through another platform. The man I spoke with agreed that this was unacceptable and said it hadn’t been his decision. If they offered another room, that wasn’t made clear to me. Updating my rating to 3 stars.

We had a vehicle with a rooftop tent, and the ladies were so sweet about squeezing us in at the last minute. It cost $200 per person per night.

I’d avoid staying here. The apartment was filthy and neglected when I arrived: the kitchen was dirty, the floor was covered in dirt, and the place smelled of cat and dog urine. The sponge and wipes hadn’t been changed in at least a week, maybe months. The owner apparently had weather and other problems, but shouldn’t offer the place if it can’t be looked after. He was in Spain, and the guy looking after it seemed to do only the bare minimum. After I complained, he cleaned for around ten minutes. I said that wasn’t enough and asked to cancel and get a refund. The owner asked what else needed doing, so I requested a deep clean with proper supplies. There weren’t any cleaning tools at the property, which left me wondering how or how often it was cleaned. The guy mopped with bleach, and that was all. I asked again to cancel and get my money back, but the owner said he couldn’t cancel. He also tried to make me feel unreasonable, saying the guy had done “so much work” and it should be enough, then cast himself as the victim. I never got a refund from the property. The owner refuses to approve one through Booking.com and has stopped responding. In response to the owner: these are simply lies. I arrived half an hour early and was told the apartment was ready. That just confirms what’s wrong with the place, right from the start.

I only stayed one night because I already had other plans, though I would happily have stayed longer. The staff were lovely, the tents comfortable, and the showers, toilets, and kitchen were clean. Wi-Fi seemed to reach every corner, and there were plenty of outlets. You get a beautiful view over Mazunte from up here, and town is about a ten-minute walk away.
