Cabañas Sicarú

We had such a lovely stay at Cabanas Sicaru. Eduardo, his family, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. We were there on our honeymoon, and after dinner on the first night, we came back to find rose petals in the room and a sweet note. The mattress was fantastic, and the pillows were AWESOME. The room was very comfortable, with cool decorations, and the plants around the place were amazing. Mazunte is just a short walk down the road, with lots of little restaurants where we had a great time eating. We miss our time here already and highly recommend staying.

We really enjoyed our stay and loved the pool, but at nearly $200 a night with taxes and fees, it didn’t feel like great value. The water was lukewarm rather than hot. Construction was still going on, with some missing railings, and two windows in our room had boards instead of glass. There was no purified water, shampoo, or lotion in the rooms. We also got mixed up about which WhatsApp number was best for contacting the owner. I’d stay again if the price came down or they added a few more amenities.

We gave it 3 stars because the rooms were clean and had the basic amenities, but the cabanas were overpriced for their quality and service. More than €150 a night with no food or breakfast included is outrageous. There was no hot water. The receptionist was very unprofessional, didn’t speak English, and didn’t even try. When we asked for help, she laughed in our faces. The hotel was still being built, with constant banging that made it impossible to stay in our rooms for calls or meetings. Dogs were kept locked beside reception and barked throughout the night. The rooms have large windows, but you can’t open the curtains without losing all your privacy. The whole place feels like locals are trying to cash in on Mazunte as a tourist hotspot: a few basic touches to make it look high-end, then charging too much.

I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return someday. Thanks to the Owner (Lalo) and his team for doing a great job. They can arrange delivery from three nearby restaurants, and the large pool is fantastic for hanging out during the day. It looks especially nice at night with the lights on. For the price and comfort, this is one of the best hotel choices in Mazunte, maybe the best. Every room has air conditioning, a TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, and a fan above the bed. A gym was planned for March 2022.
